STACS DNA and Missouri State Highway Patrol to Present at MAFS 2012

September 24, 2012

Discuss U.S. Labs’ Progress and Challenges on the Path to Paperless

WHO: Tim Stacy, U.S. Sales Director, Forensics, STACS DNA and Brian Hoey, Laboratory Manager and DNA Technical Leader, Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) and President Elect of the Midwestern Association of Forensic Scientists (MAFS)

WHAT:  Present “The 21st Century Laboratory: The Challenge of Going Paperless”

WHEN: Thursday, September 27, 2:00 PM

WHERE: Hilton Milwaukee City Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

DETAILS: With the advent of computers, scanners and increasingly shrinking storage devices, we feel the need to eliminate paper from our lives.  Is eliminating paper truly an efficient way for a DNA lab to work?

In this presentation, Brian Hoey Missouri State Highway Patrol and Tim Stacy of STACS DNA examine the benefits and challenges of attaining the paperless DNA laboratory. They present the progress DNA labs in the U.S. have made in their efforts to reduce their dependence on paper. They explore the process by which a lab can determine the highest value processes to migrate to paperless, the role of laboratory informatics in accomplishing the lab’s goals, and how labs can save hundreds of thousands of dollars while maintaining or even improving performance levels on their path to paperless.
